Airport Authority's Portion of Your Property Tax Bill
The increase in the airport's portion of your 2009 property tax bill is a result of an additional tax levy imposed to cover debt service on the vacant cargo sort facility - formally occupied by Kitty Hawk. The debt service levy, approved in 2008, is effective for 2009 through 2019. We are aggressively marketing the cargo facility to seek a replacement tenant(s). If we are successful in our efforts, lease payments will reduce the tax levy required to pay the debt service. In addition, the 2009 levy amount ($2.7M) is higher than the amount ($1.9M) we will levy in subsequent years.
The Authority's portion of the countywide property tax bill is just under 2% of $330,403,193.
