Fort Wayne, Ind. – Officials at the Fort Wayne-Allen County Airport Authority (FWACAA) are pleased to announce that non-stop service to Detroit Metro Airport (DTW) is returning to Fort Wayne International Airport (FWA) beginning Friday, June 7, 2024. The route will operate once daily, seven days a week with a schedule that provides easy access into Delta’s connecting system.

Non-stop service to DTW on Delta returns to FWA after leaving the market in October 2022 due to the airline pilot shortage. Airport Authority staff actively worked to restore DTW service to the airport, working closely with community members and Delta Air Line staff. These efforts included a letter-writing campaign from the Northeast Indiana business community sent directly to Delta’s Atlanta headquarters voicing the need for DTW service at FWA to be restored.

Not only will the return of non-stop DTW service reinstate another non-stop destination to FWA, it will also further open travel destinations worldwide to the Fort Wayne and Northeast Indiana communities – as DTW offers over 140 non-stop destinations on four continents to passengers. Detroit Metro serves as one of Delta Air Lines’ major hubs and Delta’s main gateway to Asia.

“The Fort Wayne-Allen County Airport Authority is proud to bring non-stop service to Detroit on Delta Air Lines back to the Northeast Indiana region,” said Scott Hinderman, Executive Director of Airports. “We know the importance of this non-stop route to our community and appreciate the time, effort, and patience the community and business leaders have taken to assist us in restoring this service. We appreciate Delta’s continued partnership and look forward to seeing non-stop flights to Detroit flying from FWA once again.”

The return of Detroit service to the airport brings Delta’s non-stop routes at FWA to three – including service to Atlanta (ATL) and Minneapolis-Saint Paul (MSP). This also brings FWA’s non-stop destinations to a total of 13 on four airlines with non-stop service to Chicago O’Hare, Charlotte, Dallas Fort-Worth (American Airlines); Atlanta, Detroit, Minneapolis (Delta Air Lines); Chicago O’Hare (United Airlines); Fort Myers/Punta Gorda, Las Vegas, Myrtle Beach, Orlando/Sanford, Phoenix/Mesa, Tampa Bay/St. Petersburg, Sarasota (Allegiant Air).

Non-stop service to Detroit returns on June 7, 2024, with once daily service on the 76-seat CRJ-900. Flights are tentatively scheduled to operate at 6:55AM for an FWA-DTW departure, and a 9:45PM DTW-FWA arrival. Tickets can be booked directly through Delta Air Lines at www.delta.com or 1-800-221-1212.
